This week Erie News Now is featuring the journey of a 40-year U.S. Army veteran and a 1969 graduate of Strong Vincent High School.

He was on active duty three times during his four decades of service.

"Sometimes you can get the right group of people," said Tom. "We all had to be credentialed and everything. We only had 20 people so we had to be cohesive."

Now 74 years old, Tom says his best assignment is being involved with the Wounded Warriors Foundation.

"We had people that were challenged, and soldiers that committed suicide," said Tom. "Nobody can say I understand, no you don't, until you have that happen to someone you're very close to. It's something you don't get over easily."

He's a proud veteran with a lifelong devotion to his country.

"It was a privilege and an honor," said Tom.

To U.S. Army Veteran Tom, thank you for your service.
