AHN Saint Vincent is continuing its Nurse Week celebration by honoring some of its nurses who have gone above and beyond over the past year.

For the past 24 years, Laurie Fife has been dedicated to helping others.

"I love what I do, and I hope I make a difference in my patient's and their families' lives every time we meet," said Laurie.

She's one of nine nurses to receive an award for her patient care at AHN Saint Vincent. The winners are nominated by their peers and colleagues, based on their work ethic.

"It's so well-deserved. They work so hard, tirelessly day in and day out. It's the least we can do to support and recognize them for all the great work they do," said Karen.

Devin Sharp is the winner of this year's Spirit of Nursing Award.

"It truly means so much. As a nurse, you get to connect with so many people that you never would have before, and it shows that our connection, our love, and care really mean something," said Devin.

"What does it take to be a nurse? Grit. It takes a lot of grit," said Laurie. "Compassion. Empathy, and a true desire to want to help others."

"It takes so much heart to do what we do every day, because it's not easy," said Devin. "But it truly is the most important thing that we can do for people."

Despite many challenges, both Fife and Sharp are committed to making a difference.

"Helping others. Helping people in their most difficult times," said Laurie. "I encounter individuals who are facing probably the most difficult time they will ever face in their entire life, and it's my role to help them through that in the best way possible."

AHN Saint Vincent currently employs nearly 700 nurses.
