Over 100 people gathered this weekend to show their support for suicide awareness in Warren County.

Racers lined up to participate in the sixth annual Jessica Salapek Memorial 5K, a race created by Jessica’s husband Brian, in her memory.

The event aims to shine a light on suicide prevention, honoring Jessica’s passion for running while uniting the community in a shared cause.

Each year organizers of the race donate all of the proceeds to local suicide prevention efforts, ensuring that the funds raised make a tangible difference in the community.

“Each year we've been organizing this 5K in honor of Jess and to support suicide awareness and education," stated Brian Salapek, Jessica Salapek Memorial 5K Coordinator.   "All the money that we raise, we put into awareness and suicide prevention and education locally here through the Core Program put on by Kari Swanson.”

“It makes me really happy that people try to support suicide prevention,” said Averyanna Salapek, Daughter of the Late Jessica Salapek.

The race not only serves to memorialize the life of a local artist but to also bring the community together in a tangible way.

"We are here today for suicide awareness and for a memorial, " stated Lily Berkhous. "I've had a fun day running and being with friends today too."

The dedication of event organizers and participants paid off, with this year's event raising approximately $1,000.00.
