A group in Millcreek Township wants to see a commission created to study their form of government.

They currently have three supervisors but the group argues that similar townships have more non-employee supervisors ranging from three to five.

Bob Enas is part of the group and said a study was done back in 2011, then a commission was put together of seven elected Millcreek residents.

"They met, came up with a document and that is as far as it ever went, we are trying to get past that point this time and actually give the voters a say in the kind of government they have because we feel that Millcreek voters should have a choice," Enas said.

"Of the top 25 most populated second class townships, we are number two in the state and we are the only one out of those top 25 that have this form of government," Millcreek Township Supervisor, Jim Bock said.

Bock explained that for a commission to be formed, it will have to on the ballot in November for Millcreek residents to vote on.

"It would be a question similar to shall a government commission of seven members be formed to study Millcreek Township's existing form of government and issue a recommendation whether or not that form of government should be changed so it does not mean it will be changed, it is just a preliminary step in the process," Bock said.

Art Oligeri said he supports a study being done and believes if the question is on the ballot in November, most Millcreek Township residents will agree with his position.

"The majority of voters are going to be in favor of a study to see whether the present government of Millcreek Township is the best going forward in 2024 and beyond," Oligeri said.

Millcreek Township Supervisor Chairwoman, Kim Clear, stated, "the Township is currently researching the scope of work and financial commitment in the conceivable forming of the commission. Public discussion has been placed on Tuesday's Supervisors' meeting agenda."
