Camping consists of scenic views, sitting by water and relaxing. Memorial Day weekend often marks the beginning of the summer camping season for campgrounds. One camper shared what his favorite part of camping is.

"There's a lot of fresh air and stuff . . .It's very peaceful,” Grady Buchkovich said.

Buchkovich was camping at Sparrow Pond, and he said he was excited for all that was in store.

“I love Sparrow Pond. It’s a very good place. There’s a lot of good stuff here.. . the pool opens on Friday, which is very fun,” Buchkovich said.

Property manager Jeffrey Carmosino said compared to staying in places like hotels, a campground has access to nature that just can’t be beat.

“Indoors, you can only do so much. Over here you got all this green space that you can enjoy swimming in the pool, fishing, hiking, and riding your bike around. I mean we sit on about 90 acres of land. So there’s plenty to do outdoors,” Carmosino said.

At the campground, a lot of hours are put in to get ready for summer.

“It’s a lot of work. Days like today we’re working 12 hours,” Carmosino said.

The rest of the lots at Sparrow Pond we’re booked for Memorial Day weekend. Assistant manager of Sparrow Pond Tammy Carmosino said there was an increase in campers during the COVID-19 pandemic, but now it’s starting to even out.

“During COVID we saw a huge increase because everybody wanted to be outside, so we were the safe place to be. I think it’s kind of leveling out now. We’re still full on all of the weekends. Our weekday business is a little slow, so hopefully that will pick up this year,” Carmosino said.

They take bookings year round and are expecting to see both regulars and new guests.

“People love being out and about. We have a good crew, a lot of return guests, and new faces so we just have a lot of fun here," Carmosino said.
