Erie News Now has an update on a $78 million bridge project in Chautauqua County New York. It's the bridge carrying Interstate 86 over Chautauqua Lake. 

Currently, the bridge is down to one lane. The project that started in March, and is set to last until 2026. 

The Major of Bemus Point, Jeffrey Molnar, says he's been kept up-to-date by the department of transportation in New York State. The department is overseeing the project. 

"The regional Director says they are reassessing their position and trying to examine the best way to go forward," said Molnar. 

According to the Mayor its all a concrete issue. He says the contractor can't pump concrete that far on the bridge. So, there will be bridge closures at night at random. 

The bridge is way that many people travel into Bemus Point, NY. The mayor and the head of the business Association in the area say it's a good investments that will pay off. 

The Department of Transportation in New York sent Erie News Now the following statement regarding the bridge. 

The bridges carrying Interstate 86 over Chautauqua Lake are 100 percent safe for motorists. Out of an abundance of caution, the Department is re-evaluating plans for the safest, most efficient removal of concrete from the bridges carrying Interstate 86 over Chautauqua Lake. Occasional overnight closures are expected with a project of this size, but there are currently no plans for long-term closures. NYSDOT will keep the public apprised on any changes in the construction schedule once the evaluation is complete.
