Millcreek Township Reminds Residents of Fireworks Rules & Regulations Ahead of Independence Day

As the 4th of July approaches, Millcreek Township is reminding residents of fireworks rules and regulations.
Millcreek Township defines three types of fireworks: novelty, consumer, and display fireworks.
Ground and hand-held sparkling devices such as party poppers, sparklers, smoke bombs, etc. are considered Novelty fireworks.
Smaller fireworks intended for personal enjoyment fall in the Consumer fireworks category.
Individuals must be at least 18 years of age to use, possess and purchase consumer fireworks.
Individuals cannot intentionally use consumer fireworks if:
- On private property or on public property, including but not limited to, streets, parking lots, sidewalks and parks , without the express permission of the owner or entity that controls the property.
- Within, directed at or directed from a vehicle or building or directed at another person.
- While the person is under the influence of alcohol, a controlled substance, or another drug.
- With one hundred fifty (150) feet of building or vehicle, whether or not the building or vehicle is owned by user.
- Time Limitations: May not be used between the hours of 10:00 pm and 10:00 am expect: on certain holidays listed with in the ordinance (§ 40-67) or below.
- Consumer fireworks may not be used between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m., except:
- On July 2, 3, and 4 and December 31, when consumer fireworks may be used until 1:00 a.m. the following day;
- When July 4 falls on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, consumer fireworks may be used until 1:00 a.m. on the immediately preceding and following Friday and Saturday;
- Memorial Day, including the immediately preceding Saturday and Sunday
- Labor Day, including the immediately preceding Saturday and Sunday.
- Consumer fireworks may not be used between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m., except:
Anyone using consumer fireworks in violation of the law may be charged with a Summary Offense and face a monetary fine.
The township said some people do not appreciate hearing fireworks as they may invoke bad memories or disturb children and pets. The township is asking residents to be courteous if using any fireworks.
