A precautionary swimming restriction is now in place for beach 6 at Presque Isle State Park due to high E. coli bacteria levels, park officials announced Friday morning.

Park visitors are not permitted to enter the water at the affected beach until the bacteria drops to a safe level.

The water, which is normally tested twice per week, will now be tested daily at the beach.

Beach 6 remains open to the public for sunbathing and other recreational opportunities.

The other guarded beaches at Presque Isle are open for swimming.
