Local Cheer Team Preps for Next Season After Championship Wins
Extreme Athletix, a local competitive cheer team in Warren County, has been making headlines, competing and winning in numerous championships nation-wide.
Twelve years ago, Extreme Athletix began their first season with a team of nine girls.
Today, the program boasts 85 athletes, multiple national championship wins, and this year, they’ve even competed against international teams at Summit.
“They had a spectacular season, and it was a season that we never really saw coming,” Crystal Russell, EA Mav Hip-Hop Team Coach.
“This year has been a ride for sure, with our EA Mavs (Extreme Athletix Mavericks Team)," stated Shawna Fitzgerald, Director of Extreme Athletix. "We went to Erie Nationals, and they won their division there, we went to Championships in Virginia Beach and then this season they got a bid for Summit. There’s 14 different countries there, being represented and it’s just amazing, the talent that is out there.”
Team members we spoke with stated that being a part of this competitive team is more than just practice and competitions - it’s a chance to work hard and make friendships that last a lifetime.
“The experiences that you take in from this program are really like no other," said Cali Chapman, EA Mav team member and Junior Coach. "You get to grow as a person, you get to grow as an athlete, and you get to grow in your social skills. The experience is definitely like no other.”
“You get to have an amazing, awesome time with the people you can now call family, in a sport that you enjoy,” stated Lexi Gulnac, EA Mav Hip Hop Team member.
The Extreme Athletix team’s next season officially begins in August. They are excited to see what's in store for them.
