Amid the hustle and noise of the 4th of July, one local woman has dedicated herself to providing a sensory friendly space for people with disabilities.

For many families, large celebrations like the 4th of July can quickly become overwhelming.

Mandie Englert, founder of HEROES, a support group in Warren County for children of all ages with disabilities, is aiming to provide a safe place this fourth of July, full of sensory events, calming music, and scents.

“I’m hoping to provide a calm space, for those who need it," stated Mandie Englert, founder of HEROES. "We will have sensory pouches, moon dough, water activities in a kiddie pool, and other calming sensory based activities. It is my hope to provide a nice safe space.”

"I'm proud of my mom for doing this," stated Nolan Flatt, HEROES team member. "It's a good thing to have here."

“I’m looking forward to see the outcome, the amount of people that show up," added Louis Flatt, HEROES team member. "I hope it does really well, my mom, she loves this and I love that she loves this. It warms my heart to know that she is one of the few people in the world that looks out for people with disabilities.”

The HEROES calming area will be located at Betts Park in Warren, PA during the 4th of July celebrations from 2:00pm until 10:00pm all weekend, beginning Thursday.

They will also be hosting a Fun Day at Chapman State Park, Saturday July 6th from 11:00am until 10:00pm as an alternative event for those who want to avoid fireworks.
