"The events that we put on have raised just over a million dollars since 2020," Kim McBurnett, Co-Founder and President of the Uncommon Grit Foundation. "Which is great, because we are small and kind of just rely on word of mouth and our connections. We strive to do as much as we can with what we have."

Kim's husband Darren McBurnett served as a United States Navy SEAL for 24 years. After retiring the couple wanted to find a way to be able to give back to others that have served.

As we deployed more and more, as war time continued, as I lost more and more friends," Darren McBurnett said. "Those friends took care of me when I was in battle. So how can I take care of those guys and their families when we get back?"

Veterans, Super Bowl champion Jim McMahon, and several retired NHL players came together today not just to chat over a meal, but to give to those in need.

The support shown the past two years means everything to Kim and Darren.

"It's so many people, especially in Erie Pennsylvania. It's like oh my god you guys are awesome," Darren said.

"We can't do any of it without these people, and having McMahon here is just icing on the cake, but he's been a big support of us for a long time. The NHL guys that are here mean a lot to us too," Kim said.

"The heart and soul of America is here in Erie, thank you so much," Darren said.
