Two people in Venango County were recently scammed out of money, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

A 21-year-old Cooperstown man was tricked into depositing $4,400 into a bitcoin machine on Friday, troopers said.

The victim told investigators he believed he was talking to a tech person from Apple who told him his bank account was hacked, and he needed to remove the money and not tell anyone if the bank asked any questions.

In another incident, an 82-year-old Franklin woman on Wednesday received a call about her Comcast account being hacked, according to state police.

The caller on the phone told her they could protect her account and get rid of the hackers if she provided gift cards, troopers said. Two gift cards totaling $900 were stolen, according to investigators.

State police are reminding the public no business will ask you to buy bitcoin or gift cards, and you should contact law enforcement if you believe it's a scam.
