Younger soccer players are taking inspiration from watching the U.S. men and women's soccer teams at the Olympics.

PennWest Edinboro is hosting their annual soccer camp that brings high school players to our area from all over the country.

Having them watch the professionals in action gives them a chance to see what they can eventually become

"I always try to get them to watch a lot of the games and we are hoping some team bonding games where we all watch it together as they move into the knockout stage," said Jayme Spence, women's assistant soccer coach at Clearfield Area High School.

"I am very inspired by our team to do my best and win because the teams are doing great in the Olympics right now," said Mia Helsel, soccer player at Clearfield Area High School.

Gary Kagiavas, head coach of the women's soccer team at PennWest Edinboro, said the high schoolers playing the game are developing incredibly quickly.

"They have great coaching because those who are older have good ground working roots for them, so soccer in America is going to be brilliant," Kagiavas said.

Both Kagiavas and soccer camp counselor James Pool said with the Olympics ongoing and both national teams playing well, more Americans are watching and enjoying the sport.

"It is definitely growing in this country and when you have teams that they do it gives them role models so they should definitely get into it more," Pool said.

"America is not that far off anymore, we used to be quite distant, but I think after seeing the men and women's teams play the way they are, there is pretty exciting stuff coming soon," Kagiavas said.
