Erie Hall of Famer Woody Thompson Passes Away at Age of 71

Former high school football standout, Woody Thompson, who played in the NFL, died Thursday at the age of 71.
Thompson was a four-time, first-team All-City football selection at East High School.
Thompson not only excelled on the football field but was a state champion heavyweight wrestler. The East High standout twice took first place in the city and district 100-yard and 220-yard dashes.
After high school, Thompson attended the University of Miami to play football. He led the Hurricanes in rushing yards during his junior and senior seasons.
Thompson was a third-round selection by the Atlanta Falcons in the 1975 NFL Draft. He played three seasons in Atlanta, rushing for 877 yards.
Thompson was inducted into the Metro Erie Hall of Fame in 1988.
According to Thomspon's wife Stacey, he passed away from natural causes.
