Master Barbers of Erie Gives Out Free Haircuts For Kids
On top of having all the school supplies you need, you have to make a great first impression. Every kid wants to make sure they've got the coolest backpack, the newest shoes, but most importantly, a fresh new haircut.
So to help out some of the kids in the area, Master Barbers of Erie gave out free haircuts and school supplies.
Shaun Huegle, the owner of Independent Muffler and Brake Shop joined up with his dads barbershop to get kids looking good for the first day of school.
It is no secret that school supplies and haircuts can be expensive, but that is why events like this are so important to help the community.
"Considering the fact you are helping parents with at least $50 per kids for just school supplies in its self, a book bag and what not," Huegle said. "A haircut is 30 dollars, 20 dollars, so it is pretty impactful for them to come out with a smile on their face and make sure that they look like a new kid going to school."
At the end of the day Master Barbers of Erie was able to give 110 free haircuts and 145 backpacks full of supplies.
"It's been way better than I anticipated it, we kind just shot it off the hip and put it on Facebook," Huegle said. "Didn't do advertisement or nothing like that, and it has been way more impactful than I thought it would be."
Not only did the free haircuts impact those receiving them, but also those giving them.
"I remember myself, I didn't always have that so giving that back to people is very nice," Simoni, a barber at Master Barbers of Erie said.
Even though Huegle organized the event he wanted to make sure everyone that helped knew he appreciated them.
"I wanted to thank everyone that helped donate a lot of money towards it," he said. "All the barbers here on a Sunday, they are generally of on a Sunday so this is another huge event for everybody."
For the barbers though, it was just another day at the shop.
"Oh it is nothing," Simoni said. "The group that we have here is fun to be around, so this is literally just hanging around, and we love what we do so it makes no difference."
