Local dogs on Sunday made a big splash to mark the end of the dog days of summer.

Drool at the Pool marks the last day the Girard Borough Pool is open.

Dogs and their families splashed in the water and enjoyed a final swim for the season.

Each year, the event helps the community raise money, but it's also a whole lot of fun for everyone who stops by the pool.

"Kids and adults, everybody's swimming," said Tiffany Kramer, director of the Elk Creek recreation board. "The dogs are running around swimming. I'm having a great time. We have treats at the concession stand for all the little kids to enjoy. It's a good time for the whole family."

All the money raised goes to State Police in Girard to buy dog food for the stray dogs they pick up.
