Kyle Bohrer is the owner of Gordon's Butcher & Market, where vice presidential candidate and Ohio Sen. JD Vance stopped after his rally at Hardinger.

Bohrer said it all started with a phone call from the advance team last weekend when the campaign was looking for a place to come and visit in the city of Erie.

"They asked if we would be okay with that and we said, absolutely we are willing to have a figure of that level come into the store and the neighborhood meat market," Bohrer said.

Jerry Clark, retired FBI agent, said ahead of that visit, the advance team is making sure that there are no surprises.

"They know exactly where they are going to go, who should be there and have access to that facility, so they are going to send somebody a few days ahead that is going to go and talk to any place they are going to go so that it is very well-organized what should happen at that site," Clark said.

After the assassination attempt on former President Trump, Secret Service are now trying to be as organized as they can, even dealing with a power outage during the visit.

"I can tell you firsthand that everything is heightened right now, anything from what happened on that day with former President Trump is heightened on anybody that they are protecting and rightfully so, we do not want to make a mistake and those advance teams are vitally important because they are going to be the ones that determine who goes where and who does what," Clark said.

To have a vice presidential candidate make a stop at a local business was a big deal and one that Bohrer said they were not going to say no to.

"Just like we were not going to say no to Vice President Kamala Harris, Gov. Tim Walz or any other former politician that size.

In this Erie area, to get the attention and bright spotlight, that is important for us," Bohrer said.
