The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is reporting multiple cases of listeria in Pennsylvania. They are connected to the recall of Boar’s Head deli meat products.

Listeria is a bacteria found in bad meat and dairy products. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches and an upset stomach.

The Erie County Department of Health said these symptoms can take weeks to appear.

During food safety inspections, the department ensures employees properly handle meat products.

“We would be checking that they’re sanitizing their equipment, washing their hands, wearing gloves, storing everything at the right temperatures and providing the best possible product that they can,” said Breanna Adams, director of environmental services at the department.

Adams recommends someone contact their doctor if they think they’re infected.
