The Waterford Community Fair
The Waterford Community Fair has plenty to offer, including food, games, and community. One classic fair go-to is lemonade.
“It's a tradition. People want their hot sausage, their funnel cake, and their fresh squeezed lemonade, and we count on that and we enjoy it,” Co-owner of Ross Concessions Kathy Ross said.
Ross said the Waterford Community Fair has a special place in her heart.
"I grew up showing cattle here -- dairy cattle. So when we got the concession businesses, this was one of the first fairs that we really wanted to be at because it's our hometown,” Ross said.
Jordan Whitney came to the fair with her family, and she says she has a lot of favorites when it comes to the fair.
"I like getting the treats, and riding the rides and seeing all the animals,” Whitney said.
Along with those fun fair festivities, one big focus for the fair is agricultural education.
“More and more people are removed from the actual production of agriculture. So, it’s imperative that we just give them as much information as we can because it is a fascinating subject. They grow our food, we eat it, and we like to eat. It’s important that these young people learn a little bit. Maybe we can help along that effort,” President of The Waterford Community Fair John Burawa said.
Burawa said it's a time for both learning and showcasing what's new in agriculture, from produce to cattle.
"Agriculture is the third largest industry in the state of Pennsylvania -- believe it or not. It’s interesting the change that you witness in agriculture. It is an ever-moving industry like I guess all industries are,” Burawa said.
