As we get into this new school year, Erie News Now is working to bring you the area’s most complete back-to-school coverage.

Our Mark Soliday sat down with the superintendents of school districts all across the area to learn what they’re excited about, and potentially concerned about, as kids come back to class.

There's a new Superintendent in Harbor Creek.

Superintendent Dr. Buckley Cook is beginning his first school year as the district’s boss. He’s been with Harbor Creek Schools for just about a decade in various roles.

50-year-old Cook told Erie News Now that his staff is the main reason the Harbor Creek district, and its more than 2,000 students, are thriving.

As far as cell phones in schools go, Dr. Cook says there’s no total ban in the works. He says the Harbor Creek district is sticking with its current policy of letting its teachers set and enforce those rules.

And just a reminder to all students and teachers that we’re counting down to the deadline for submitting video entries for this year’s “How Cool Is Your School” contest. This year’s theme is “Helping Others.” It’s all about the good things local students are doing for their community neighbors.

Four finalists will get to host a live broadcast of Erie News Now Sunrise from inside their cool school.
