Erie County Department of Health has notified Pleasant Ridge Manor of a presumptive case of Legionnaires' Disease involving a former resident, officials from the nursing and long-term care home announced Wednesday.

After learning about the case, Pleasant Ridge Manor officials said they immediately activated its infectious disease response protocol.

Erie County Department of Health and a certified water management consultant are also doing a comprehensive review of the building's water systems.

Pleasant Ridge Manor said it has implemented extensive testing, inspection and enhanced disinfection procedures throughout its facility to ensure the safety of our residents, staff, and visitors.

"We understand that hearing about a presumptive case of Legionnaires' Disease can be concerning for our residents, their families, and our staff," said Brad Donor, NHA, executive director of Pleasant Ridge Manor, in a statement. "We want to reassure everyone that we are taking this situation very seriously. Our team is working diligently with public health officials and experts in environmental safety to ensure that every necessary measure is being taken to safeguard the health and well-being of everyone in our care."

Legionnaires' Disease primarily affects individuals with weakened immune systems, older adults, and those with chronic lung conditions.

While the risk remains low, anyone with concerns is asked to reach out to the facility's infection control department for more information and guidance at (814) 474-5521 ext. 207 during business hours Monday through Friday.
