Erie County Executive Explains Elimination of Vacant Erie County Library Positions
Several vacant positions at the Erie's Blasco Library will be eliminated. The changes come, as the county prepares for its next budget.
In a 4 to 3 vote, Erie County Council approved an ordinance to reorganize the library's staff. Erie County Executive Brenton Davis says the change in staffing, will save the county $278,000.
Around three positions are being eliminated and the responsibilities from those jobs will now be distributed to current staff members.
"Costs are going up, we're going to have another tough budget year. We remain committed to looking for other efficiencies that we tighten our belt here. I mean the people of Erie County have to tighten their belt with the cost increase of gas, with groceries in the store, interest rates, ya know if they have to tighten their belt we have to tighten our belt," said Davis.
Under the reorganization, there will eventually be 82 library employees.
