Erie County Democratic Party Held a News Conference to Discuss Kamala Harris' New Policy
Small businesses in Erie and around the country could see a huge tax break coming their way if Kamala Harris is elected.
Vice President Harris' new policy announced on Wednesday could multiple the tax break by 10 for small business owners.
Democratic State Representative Bob Merski and two local business owners spoke today about this new plan.
Just a day after Minnesota Governor Tim Walz came through Erie, the Erie democratic party held a news conference that honed in on the new policy that Vice President Harris brought up in her rally in New Hampshire Wednesday.
"Unlocking the door on opening day was one of the proudest moments of my life," Lalita Morris, owner of TLA Divine Salons said.
Vice President Kamala Harris' new policy wants to create that same opportunity for more entrepreneurs that are looking to start a small business.
The new policy suggests moving the tax deduction of start up expenses for small businesses from $5,000 to $50,000, this is due to the fact it costs on average $40,000 to launch a small business.
"Some people do not know what it is like to pour your heart and your soul into running and opening a business," Morris said.
Morris was referring to former President Donald Trump, saying that he had everything handed to him.
"He doesn't understand people like me, and he is not looking out for us," Morris said.
Angela McNair has been a small business owner in Erie for the last ten years, this year's election McNair feels the two presidential candidates present two completely different economies.
"We can choose an economy built for Donald Trump and the ultra rich," McNair said. "Or we can choose an economy built for you and me."
Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris officially agreed on a date and time for their first presidential debate.
Democratic state representative Bob Merski spoke on what he hopes to see from Kamala Harris on the debate stage.
"For the world to see what I see, a competent woman, who was battle tested in the height of the pandemic, and ready to lead on day one," Merski said. "Kamala Harris has a plan for the working class and I hope she explains that plan, I'm confident she will in the debate for the American people."
