A Crawford County father has been charged with assaulting an infant and child, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

The investigation started Monday when troopers said they were called to Meadville Medical Center for a one-month-old female child with unexplained facial injuries.

The child suffered severe head trauma and was flown to UPMC Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh, investigators said.

State police charged father of the child - Tyler Acker, 26, of Hayfield Township - with aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

He was also arrested and charged with simple assault after investigators said they learned of a separate incident with a five-year-old girl.
