Could Three Fort LeBoeuf Schools Become One?
The Fort LeBoeuf School District has a money problem - a problem their superintendent said many districts have.
So, the district is trying to figure out how to save money.
They’re looking at two options. They could upgrade the infrastructure at their three elementary schools or combine them into one.
“So as a cost-saving measure, we looked at this as being a possibility for us to reduce costs in the short-term as well as in the long-term," Superintendent Richard Emerick said.
That possibility doesn’t sit well with some people. That’s why signs that say “Save Our Schools” have popped up in front yards.
The new school would be built near the middle and high schools in Waterford “to localize all of our resources here," Emerick said.
"Safety and security was a priority for us to have everybody here on one campus.”
The plan would save the district about $1 million a year.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Sean Wolfrom said no teaching positions would be cut
Other positions, such as cafeteria workers and janitorial staff, could be cut, however.
Wolfrom said there would be benefits to having one elementary school. One of them would be less traveling for some teachers.
They're not sure when a decision could be made. The plans are available on the district's website.
