Much like the traffic on the Bayfront Parkway, the project to improve it is moving along.

PennDOT has been doing construction for about a year. Recently, crews have been busy moving utility lines underground.

They’ve also been building a round-a-bout at the Sassafrass Street extension.

By the end of this month - traffic in both directions will be shifted onto the round-a-bout.

During that time, drainage work and features to help prevent flooding will be installed. it’ll take months to get done.

“We anticipate working through the winter and accomplishing as much as we can,” said project manager Justin Baker.

“But the bulk of that work will be taking place next spring.”

Crews are about to start moving more utilities underground near State Street too. That means State Street will be closed from the parkway to Front Street.

The closure could start at the end of October and last through Thanksgiving, Baker said.

Detours will be posted.
