There is a new health care facility in Erie.

The Multi-Cultural Health Evaluation Delivery System opened their third facility at 826 Parade St. Erie, PA Thursday.

In addition to their other locations on Peach St. and in the basement of the JFK Center, MHEDS is hoping to enhance their capacity to serve medically undeserved communities in Erie, while also being a part of the East Side Renaissance Initiative.

This past year they have had 1,100 refugees come through their doors. 87% of their patients feel they are best cared for when their native language is used.

The CEO of MHEDS, Alivia Haibach, says "This neighborhood hasn't had a primary care physician for a long time. There's a high medical-- There's a high amount of medical unmet need in this zipcode, 16503. But two, this is the neighborhood where refugees are resettled to. So making sure that we're in the same neighborhood as the patients we serve, eliminates barriers like transportation."

Haibach estimates that with this new location they will be able to serve 8,000 patients per year.
