Erie Police Cruiser Crashes into Pole During Pursuit Saturday

A City of Erie police officer will be off duty for a while after crashing his police cruiser into a utility pole during a pursuit Saturday.
It happened at W. 18th and Chestnut St.
The officer was pursuing a wanted person on a bicycle when he took a corner too fast and his vehicle slid into the pole, according to police chief Dan Spizarny.
The officer was taken to the hospital for evaluation. While the chief didn't comment on any injuries, he did say the officer will be out of work temporarily.
Other officers went on to arrest the suspect who had a number of outstanding warrants including one for aggravated assault.
Erie police command staff will investigate and review the incident internally.
