The Wabtec Corporation was awarded $48,412,512 to help develop hydrogen-powered trains in Erie. The funding comes from by the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) grant program.

The program was made possible by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

The CRISI grant program is a federal grant program that provides funding for projects that will improve the safety, efficiency, and reliability of intercity passenger and freight rail.

The funding will be used to help Wabtec remanufacture trains at its facility in Erie to use hydrogen as a fuel source.
