The City of Warren is preparing for a busy year ahead, with several major improvement projects planned for roadways, parks, and playgrounds.

Road upgrades will be funded through the Community Development Block Grant program, targeting streets that meet federal qualifications. These improvements aim to enhance safety and accessibility for residents.

"The city of Warren is called an "Entitlement Community" through the Community Development Block Grant program," explained Kassie Damcott, from the City of Warren Department of Public Works. "That title allows us to get Federal funds to refinish the concrete streets in the city that would otherwise be very expensive to flip to asphalt. We plan on refurbishing one street each year using those Federal funds."

Local parks are also set to benefit from significant enhancements. Lacey Park will receive new playground equipment, and a communication board designed to assist verbally impaired children.

And across the city at Point Park, there are plans that include the addition of a trail, a pavilion bathroom, and updated playground equipment.

These park and playground projects are made possible through state grants and funding from the PA Department of Conservation and Natural resources along with support from the DeFrees Family Foundation and the Rotary Club.

“These projects are about improving the quality of life for our residents and creating spaces that are welcoming and inclusive,” stated Damcott.
"We have a lot of collaborative efforts happening with the DCNR, Rotary Club and the Defrees Family Foundation to rehabilitate our parks and playgrounds, and we look forward to continuing those collaborations for the community."

Work on these projects is expected to begin in 2025, with updates to be shared as progress is made.
