This week a high school student was surprised in class with a $1,200 scholarship.

It's part of the C.L.A.S.S. Act Emerging Leader Award, now in its third year. The November recipient is a Union City senior. 

Our Eva Mastromatteo surprised Emily Iman in her Anatomy and Physiology class.

She was nominated by three teachers and the school guidance counselor. They all say her kindness and humility are unmatched.

"She will stand up for everybody and anyone. I've never heard her say anything negative about anyone and she won't leave anybody behind," said Brandi Check, Spanish Teacher. "She makes sure everybody feels supported and connected."

Congratulations to Emily! Emily has plans to become a teacher, after graduation from Union City.
