Paws Along the River Humane Society has a new executive director and a renewed focus on engaging with the community.

The shelter is addressing an influx of stray cats and kittens while also expanding its efforts to connect with local residents.

One of the first major initiatives under the new leadership is the launch of a trap, spay, neuter, and release program. The program, made possible by an anonymous donation, aims to reduce the stray cat population humanely and effectively.

“This past spring and into the summer we were filtering anywhere from one to three hundred phone calls a week with people wanting us to take in stray cats, Jodi Streich-Hollabaugh, Paws Along the River Executive Director said. “It’s been a challenge, but we were recently fortunate enough to have an anonymous donor contribute enough funds to start a TNR program. It's our hope that this program will help us cut down on the stray cat population in the county.”

The shelter is also excited to announce their first ever, upcoming Black Friday Pet Adoption event on November 29th, where all adoptions will be 50% off.
It is the directors hope that this initiative will further encourage the community to adopt and not shop.

In addition to these new initiatives, Paws Along the River is increasing its outreach efforts by providing resources to pet owners. As the holidays approach, the shelter is offering pet safety tips to help families avoid common seasonal hazards, such as harmful decorations and toxic foods.

These tips and other resources can be found on the shelter’s website, here.

With a focus on education, proactive solutions, and community involvement, the new leadership at Paws Along the River aims to make a lasting impact for both pets and their owners.
