How Is This Round of Snow Affecting Downtown Businesses? One Local Business is Looking to Take Advantage

Mulnah Dovat, Marketing & Member Services Coordinator for the Erie Downtown Partnership, has dealt with the snow a lot recently.
"That definitely was a big way that people were impacted," Dovat said.
Miracle on State Street at the end of 2024 was postponed twice due to the "Snowmageddon," one of the events that impacted revenue for local businesses.
Saturday night, there is a planned Taylor Swift Night at the downtown skating rink, but that is dependent on the weather conditions, which has been a factor around the holidays. Dovat hopes it doesn't interfere to start the new year.
"During a holiday weekend, people have loved ones visiting, friends and family," Dovat said.
But Dovat says with businesses offering indoor options along the state street corridor, it provides an alternative.
"That means that there's always a reason to come downtown."
Co-owner Tony Arrigo of Hazards Mini Golf Social Pub is providing an addition to downtown options, especially in a harsh winter like this one.
"Indoor mini golf facility, eighteen holes of mini golf, full bar," Arrigo said. "Basically, it's great for all ages."
Opening this past weekend, the owners say a great way to enjoy a night out, as long as weather permits in the near future.
"Hopefully [it] doesn't affect us too much this weekend," Arrigo said. "Hopefully [the] roads get cleared, mother nature plays nice, and we could have a nice, busy weekend."
