Erie hockey history will be made tonight at the Erie Insurance Arena with the retiring of NHL star Connor McDavid's jersey. 

The number 97 will be seen prominently around the sold-out arena.

McDavid joined the Otters in 2012 at the age of 15, and spent the next three years captivating fans and teammates.

He then went on to join the Edmonton Oilers as the first overall pick.

The Otter's Team Store was busy this morning due to all the Otters and McDavid merchandise for sale. 

The store opened at 10 a.m. Friday morning for fans to get their gear before tonight's big game, and celebration of the retirement of McDavid's #97 Otters jersey.

Fans coming from near and far were lined up this morning, to get their gear.

Connor and a few other Otters from the 2017 championship team and prior will be at the ceremony, tonight.

For current players, it's a chance to see a hero.

The Arena parking ramp opens at 4:30 p.m.; doors open at 5:30 p.m. for season ticket holders, 6:00 p.m. for everyone else.

Organizers are advising guests to get there early before the event starts at 7 p.m. 

Additionally, Voodoo Brewing is hosting a special McDavid Pregame Party tonight from 4-7 p.m. They will have the game on there as well.
