Dr. King's Legacy in 2025
Dr. King's message and call for change is still relevant today, decades later.
It's been over 60 years since he delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech.
According to Bishop Dwane Brock of Victory Christian Central Cathedral, "King's dream for racial equality, it went beyond that, Dr. King's dream had to do with dignity and respect for everyone, regardless of their race, color, or creed and we don't see that happening today."
Decades later, can the dream Dr. King proclaimed about be found today? According to Bishop Brock, "I'm very much concerned about the sustainability of the dream of Dr. King and it seems to be all of the evidence that the dream is being threatened."
With the dream being in jeopardy, Bishop Brock believes it's up to individuals to keep it alive, "An obligation that every citizen of this country and this world has and that is to treat one another with dignity and respect, helping one another. Right here in Erie, Pennsylvania, checking in on your neighbor, removing their snow if they are elderly."
Bishop Brock believes Dr. King would be distraught if he saw society today and said to make a change, it begins with the next generation. "If Dr. King were here today, I think Dr. King would be saddened, I think he would be inundated with tears of sorrow because every generation, we have to train them. There's a new generation upon us now who know nothing about the struggles of the civil rights years."
