Erie County Starts New Tiny Homes Initiative at 16th and Wallace

During the coldest temperatures of the winter, Erie County Executive Brenton Davis is announcing construction of a new tiny homes village called "A Pathway Home.
The project will provide a total of 25 tiny homes on property just west of the former Erie County Prison Pre-Release Center at 16th and Wallace.
The building has been converted to the Erie County Resilience Center. It houses the "Our Neighbor's Place Warming Shelter" that used to move from church to church during the cold winter months giving people experiencing homelessness a place to stay overnight.
County Exec. Brenton Davis said the tiny homes are the next step toward sustainability for individuals or families experiencing homelessness.
The design plans call for one and two story tiny homes. The single story design will house to individuals with a shared kitchenette and bathe.
The two story homes will help families experiencing homelessness stay together.
Davis hopes that contractors and Erie County Community College building trades students will help to build the tiny homes and that once built, companies and church groups will sponsor the homes and residents through their tradition to independence. "This isn't long term housing," I mean really this is that stop gap, so the goal is to help folks get on their feet, get a job, get where they can pay rent and get them in a sustainable unit on their own," the county executive said.
