Facing a critical blood shortage, the Community Blood Bank is offering a carton of eggs to donors in hopes of boosting donations and alleviating the burden of rising grocery prices.
"We're dealing with an ongoing shortage, and we're in critical need," says Megan Solensky, the Community Relations Specialist, who emphasizes the vital role the Blood Bank plays as the sole provider of blood to hospitals across the region. "To encourage people to roll up their sleeves, we wanted to offer something extra—something people need right now."
Solensky explains that with current concerns around rising grocery prices, the team at the Erie Blood Bank has found creative ways to engage with potential donors. "At the Donor Center, we often offer promotions based on what people want. It’s about giving them something valuable in return for their lifesaving donation."
She also stresses the life-saving importance of donating blood, reminding everyone that blood is needed for a variety of critical situations—"whether it’s for cancer patients, trauma victims, burn patients, or others in urgent need. You never know when you or someone you love might need blood. "
With a simple yet powerful message, the Blood Bank is hoping this initiative will not only increase donations but also foster a greater sense of community in the face of these pressing challenges.
