The Trump administration has released a list of more than 300 federal properties identified for closure or sale including a downtown Erie building.

The Baker Building, located at 7th and State, is part of the Federal Courthouse complex. The nearly 80-year-old building was originally home to the Isaac Baker Clothing Store.

The original list included the FBI headquarters and the main Department of Justice building, but the pared-down version no longer includes any Washington, D.C.-based operations.

The administration is also targeting properties like the Sam Nunn Atlanta Federal Center, the Speaker Nancy Pelosi Federal Building in San Francisco, and the U.S. Mission to the United Nations in New York.

Officials say they are identifying buildings and facilities that are not core to government operations as part of a broader effort to streamline federal real estate holdings.

Decades of underfunding have left many buildings outdated and costly to maintain, according to officials. By selling these properties, the government hopes to save $430 million annually in operating costs.

The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) plans to work with local markets and private partners to find creative solutions, such as sale-leasebacks or public-private partnerships.
