President Donald Trump's executive orders are having a direct impact on several of the Erie County Redevelopment Authority's (ECRDA) projects.

According to ECRDA CEO Tina Mengine, the organization planned on beginning cleanup efforts this summer, at the former Erie Coke site.

However, that project is now in limbo.

"We had a grant for several million dollars to begin demolition down there," said Mengine. "That was cut. We have multiple other grants that we were preparing that we have been told not to prepare, so Erie Coke is at jeopardy."

The cleanup project at the for EMI property is also being impacted.

"At EMI, we've got two grants that are about $5 million that are on hold now," said Mengine. "That leaves a big gap in our ability to continue renovation work that's underway right now."

According to Mengine, the executive orders have made it difficult for ECRDA to plan and future projects.

"I think anything that has been awarded should be honored," said Mengine. "We were awarded these funds. I don't think they should be pulled back. They were awarded. We met the criteria. They were awarded in good faith. They should be honored. Moving forward, I just want to know what to expect."
