As measles cases are being reported in Erie County, residents in surrounding areas have been seeking reassurance about the situation in Warren County.
Representatives from Warren General Hospital confirmed that, as of April 3rd, there are no known cases of measles in the county.
"Luckily, we have not had any confirmed cases here in Warren County, that includes the hospital, our outpatient facility, emergency room, family medical practice, and in-patient facilities," stated Kara Bauer R.N., Emergency Department Director at Warren General Hospital.
Although there are no confirmed cases in Warren County, health officials are advising everyone to ensure their vaccinations are up to date.
"I am really urging people to get vaccines," Bauer said. "We had eradicated measles years ago and unfortunately it's coming back. So, it is really important that people who can get the vaccine, get vaccines. It's important not only for your own health but for the health of others who are too young to be vaccinated. Those vulnerable people and children are the ones who will be affected the most during outbreaks."
Health officials continue to advise that everyone eligible should ensure they are current on their vaccinations to help prevent the spread of preventable diseases like measles.
