A new bill in the State Senate is proposing a 16% tax rate for Pennsylvania skill games, which are currently not taxed at all.

The bill was reintroduced by Sen. Gene Yaw, who said that 16% number is based on the way skill games are distributed.

State Rep. Pat Harkins is the Pennsylvania House Gaming Oversight Committee Chairman and said that 16% tax rate being proposed by yaw is too low, saying a number closer to the 52% proposed by Gov. Josh Shapiro is more suitable.

Yaw, though, said his bill is designed to help support local businesses, specifically veterans' organizations such as American Legions or VFW's.

While Harkins and Yaw disagree on the potential tax rate, they do see eye to eye on banning establishments that are stand alone skill games businesses.
