Erie Water Works has launched a new initiative to help keep Pennsylvania waters beautiful.
On Thursday morning, staff members gathered to show off a new litter control device.
The litter control boom was placed into Presque Isle Bay. The device is used to trap floating debris.
It is the third of its type to be introduced to Presque Isle Bay.
"Once litter enters rivers and streams, it eventually flows into our lakes and oceans, were it effects people, animals, and the environments," said Don Benczkowski, Keep Pa. Beautiful Program Coordinator.I"t effects marine life which can inject litter or become entangled in debris."
Leaders say the goal is to collect and remove trash before it can cause further environmental harm.
