Some big plans announced at the Mellon Heritage Veteran's Outreach Center in North East.

Residents of North East gathered to discuss designs for a new community trail.

The project was overseen by landscape architects Pashek+MTR, and is a joint effort by the Mellon Heritage foundation, 4 N.I.N.E. Thrift Store, North East Borough, and North East Township.

The trail will highlight the college pond at Saint Mary's Seminary a place deeply embedded within the community throughout the century, once again embraced for locals to enjoy.

"Our idea is to turn this into a destination for tourists, for economic development in north east, to allow it for use for the veterans and first responders who serve, and to bring families, and give them a place to call their own and enjoy the country, enjoy the countryside, and have fitness exercises. It's all part of giving back to the community," said Richard Mellon, Founder & CEO of the Mellon Heritage Outreach Center.

Once complete, the trail will offer the North East community new opportunities for recreation-- and a place overflowing with local history.
