The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has announced plans to demolish the Beckman Road bridge over I-90 in Girard Township, during the 2025 construction season.

The bridge, located about 0.3 miles south of the Beckman Road and Tannery Road intersection, was closed in February 2025 after being struck by a large vehicle, which caused significant damage to several beams.

Demolition work will involve removing the bridge’s superstructure and pier.

Portions of the project will require lane closures and rolling traffic stops on I-90 between Exit 16 (Franklin Center, Fairview) and Exit 9 (Girard, Platea).

A 4-mile detour remains in effect, using Tannery Road, Sterrettania Road, Keefer Road, and Franklin Road.

Replacement of the bridge is scheduled for 2028 as part of a broader I-90 reconstruction project between mile markers 10.5 and 18.
