The Code Enforcement Department investigates citizen complaints, inspect properties, and work with property owners to achieve compliance with City Codes.  The policy of the department is to protect and promote the existence of sound buildings and wholesome neighborhoods.

Aaron Mcbride joined the department about a year ago. He allowed Erie News Now to accompany him to a few properties that were out of compliance with the city's code. We went to a property that had a rubbish that was not in receptacles. The property also had pieces of furniture placed on the side of the building. The City of Erie has codes that require general cleanliness: properties must be kept free from the accumulation of garbage.  Mcbride also took ENN to a property that had a yard with grass and weeds over 10 inches.  The city code requires that grass and weeds on any lot or parcel of land be kept to a height of no more than 10 inches. Both property owners were given 14 days to rectify their violations.

The department engages with residents, business and the community to promote a healthy and safe community.
