Renowned historian Dr. Robert Garland will return to the Jefferson Educational Society in Erie for a second weeklong summer residency, July 7–11.

Garland, celebrated for his dynamic 2023 Global Summit presentation, will lead “A Day in History,” a five-part lecture series examining pivotal days that changed the course of civilization.

Each session will spotlight a historic turning point, including the Battle of Salamis (480 BC), the Ides of March (44 BC), the Gunpowder Plot (1605), the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand (1914), and the bombing of Hiroshima (1945).

Garland will also explore “what if” scenarios, inviting audiences to consider how alternate outcomes could have reshaped history.

JES President Dr. Ferki Ferati said, “It is such an honor to have a scholar of Dr. Garland’s caliber in Erie for an entire week of events.”

Garland, Emeritus Professor at Colgate University and author of several acclaimed books, will have his latest work, “What to Expect When You’re Dead: An Ancient Tour of Death and the Afterlife,” available for purchase during the residency.
