Advocates Protest Latest Medicaid Cuts
Home care consumers, workers, and healthcare advocates took to the street of Wilkins Road outside of Voices for Independence to protest the recent house passage of the largest medicaid cuts in history.
Medicaid is a lifeline for seniors, people with disabilities, and children, covering 20% of the U.S. population.
In Pennsylvania, 42% of medicaid recipients are children and 33% are seniors, pregnant individuals, or people with disabilities
Protestors said the $625 billion cuts to medicaid threaten healthcare coverage for over one million Pennsylvanians and could devastate home care programs, hospitals, and nursing homes.
Advocates are urging Senators McCormick and Fetterman to block the cuts, which, they say, would worsen the state's home care workforce crisis, increase healthcare costs, and result in 61,000 job losses statewide.
