A beloved Erie café and record shop that opened less than a year ago is now sharing some difficult news. The sweet harmony of coffee and vinyl at Legenderie Records and Coffee House will fall silent, as the owners have announced the shop will be closing its doors on June 15.

"This place was our love letter to Erie," said Ismael Trainor. "We put our hat in a heavyweight fight, and we definitely competed,” Ishmael said.

Legenderie, a modern, music-inspired café that opened just last fall, quickly became a local favorite. But despite their best efforts, Ismael and Allana Trainor say a combination of rising ingredient costs, paying staff fair wages, and a commitment to keeping prices affordable ultimately made the business unsustainable.

"The economy’s tough right now—people aren’t always going to be willing to pay what it really costs to do things the right way. So, we kept trying to find a balance."

"You know, not everyone wants to hang out at a bar. Some people just want a place to relax after 6 o'clock. What options do they have?” Ishmael said.

Still, Ismael emphasized this may not be the end.

With full hearts, the Trainors expressed deep gratitude to their regulars, students, and staff who helped bring their vision to life. “None of it would’ve happened without them,” Ishmael said. “I told him—we're only here on Earth for a short time. I never want the fear of failing to stop anyone from going after their dreams.”
