Attorney General Dave Sunday is warning Pennsylvanians about scam text messages falsely claiming to be from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

The fraudulent messages threaten to suspend licenses or vehicle registrations and demand payment through a provided link.

Officials stress that PennDOT does not send text messages regarding traffic violations or fines.

“These scammers are preying on fear,” said Sunday. “Do not click on any links. Contact the agency directly if you’re unsure.”

Consumers who receive such messages are urged to report them as spam and file a complaint with the Bureau of Consumer Protection at scams@attorneygeneral.gov, by phone at 1-800-441-2555, or online with a screenshot of the message.
