The Community Blood Bank is urging residents to support local blood donations as it responds to an upcoming drive organized by an out-of-area provider within its service region.

While acknowledging that all blood donation saves lives, Executive Director Deanna Rosenthal expressed concern: “It’s disheartening to see outside centers collecting here when we are the only provider to Erie’s hospitals.”

She added that community awareness remains a constant challenge, with some residents unaware that only Community Blood Bank supplies local patient care.

The competing drive is reportedly tied to a private conference drawing attendees from across Western Pennsylvania. “The issue isn’t the conference, it’s the outreach to Erie media and residents,” said Megan Solensky, Community Relations Specialist.

To reaffirm its commitment, Community Blood Bank is launching its “Where Are the O’s?” awareness campaign June 13–27, spotlighting the urgent need for O-type donors.

Local donors during the campaign will receive a Country Fair gift card.
